Blog: VW grows racing presence

OSCHERSLEBEN, GERMANY — Screaming down the straightaway at the Oschersleben Motorpark in a specially equipped Jetta TDI is a little like riding the fastest and jerkiest roller coaster at Six Flags — except much quicker and unnerving.

Volkswagen is growing its racing presence worldwide in a significant way. Company officials said they see it as a way to show off their vehicles and technology.

Kris Nissen, motor sport director at VW, said the company is using its Jetta “clean diesel” TDI as “a great way to show green racing.”

“The cars are totally standard except for safety,” he said.

VW’s Jetta TDI Cup, which debuted in April, was the first one-make racing cup featuring clean diesel in the United States, officials said.
