University of Tennessee at Chattanooga: Newberry repeats as SoCon libero of year
GREENSBORO, N.C. — University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior Lara Newberry was named libero of the year in the Southern Conference for the third time Thursday, and she made the all-conference first team for the first time.
She set the NCAA Division I record for digs in a season last year (942) and broke the career digs mark this year while averaging 6.53 per set. Going into the Lady Mocs’ tournament opener at 10 this morning against Furman, the former Baylor School standout has a nation-high 738 digs.
Junior Ashley Yeager leads UTC with 253 kills, and sophomore Courtney Barnes has 235 with team highs of 2.45 per set and .272 hitting, while sophomore Aurore Kullak has 234 kills and redshirt freshman Jessica Scott has 222. Senior Michaela Huff is averaging 7.1 assists per set.
