Chattanooga: Finley fundraiser reaches its goal

Included in this article

The Friends of Finley fundraising campaign has reached its goal, but Stadium Corp. board members said they are still soliciting for donations.

Gordon Davenport Jr., who heads the fundraising campaign, said he has received pledges totaling the goal of $150,000, but the campaign is not over.

“In two words, it is mission accomplished,” Mr. Davenport said. “We are not completely done, but we have achieved our goal.”

Board members have said the money will be used to offset an almost $180,000 shortfall that stadium manager Frank Burke said he has incurred during the past year.

Board member Mike Davis said about $75,000 will be spent on repairs before the NCAA Championship game Dec. 19.

Areas over the dressing rooms and the ceiling inside the First Tennessee Pavilion need to be caulked and sealed, and the south parking lot needs to be seal-coated and striped.

“The parking lots and the sidewalks are what everybody sees when the walk up,” Mr. Davis said. “A little help from the weather would go a long way (toward getting the repairs completed).”

The board also agreed to renew a five-year contract with First Tennessee Bank for its sponsorship of The First Tennessee Pavilion.

The $50,000 a year contract will run from Dec. 1, 2008, to Nov. 30, 2013. At that time the bank will have an option to renew the contract for an additional five years at $52,500 a year.

“First Tennessee would like to go ahead and execute the contract,” said Bryan Patten, board chairman.

The board is set to meet again Jan. 14.

Comments

THANK YOU First Tennessee for sponsoring The Pavillion. It is a wonderful and unique place for pre-UTC football game fun.
