Chattanooga: Police search for motorist who fled deadly crash

Chattanooga police are seeking information on a hit-and-run traffic fatality that killed a man earlier this month near the Interstate 24/75 split, police said today.

Cole J. Neal, 26, who was driving a motorcycle Aug. 8, hit the back of a car that was slowing to pull onto the shoulder. He was killed when he was thrown from his bike and then struck by an unknown vehicle, said Lt. Kim Noorbergen, Chattanooga Police Department spokeswoman.

Police said the driver of that second vehicle did not stop and wait for police assistance, and all law personnel know is that it was a small, dark-colored vehicle.

The motorist whose car Mr. Neal initially struck, however, was operating a 1999 Chrysler Cirrus and that driver did wait for police assistance.

Chattanooga police traffic investigators are asking for any information on the accident as well as any help in identifying the hit-and-run vehicle or its driver.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Chattanooga Police Department at 698-2525.
