Chattanooga: Lost police Taser found

Chattanooga police have located the department-issued Taser lost earlier this week, according to a police spokeswoman.

Sgt. Jerri Weary said a 28th Street resident called police to report finding the device. Officers went there around 5:20 p.m. and found the weapon.

“The resident found the Taser, called police, turned it in and we’re thankful,” Sgt. Weary said.

The Taser went missing Tuesday when it broke free from an officer’s belt in the East Lake/Rossville Boulevard area, police said.

That happened when the officer was getting in and out of his patrol car in the rain while working a traffic crash, Chattanooga Police Department spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary said in a news release.

A detailed search of the area was conducted Tuesday night and again Wednesday but the device was not located. Officers across the city had been searching for he weapon since then. Thursday evening, police dispatchers were broadcasting alerts to let officers know the weapon was found.
